The short answer

Gyeongju City lists its spring flower spots as cherry blossoms along the Daereungwon stone wall, the Bomun Lake path and at Bulguksa, plus canola flowers at Cheomseongdae. They are linked by walking and buses 10 and 11, so a day trip works, and Gyeongju City suggests 2 days for a relaxed pace.

Three things to do now: check the official cherry-blossom forecast because the timing changes every year, book accommodation and trains early because blossom season is busy, and build your route on a basic 2-day plan with the flower spots added.

When do the cherry blossoms come?

Blossom timing changes every year. Gyeongju City lists flower spots by season, saying cherry blossoms appear at the Daereungwon stone wall, the Bomun Lake path and Bulguksa in spring, and tells visitors to check bloom timing on the city tourism site's flower calendar and cherry blossom alert.

So this article gives no dates either. The exact timing changes every year: check the official cherry-blossom forecast and the city's cherry blossom alert once before you book, and again just before you go.

Where to see them: Gyeongju City's spring flower spots

Gyeongju City names four spring flower spots. Each sits next to a main sight or area, which makes the route easy to plan.

March–May weather and what to wear

Check an official weather forecast for the week before you travel and pack for it.

Gyeongju City describes its seasons through flowers: per Gyeongju City, spring brings cherry blossoms and canola flowers at Cheomseongdae, and summer brings lotus at Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond and Yangdong Village.

The one thing to pack for sure is comfortable shoes. The city-centre sights are seen on foot, and Seokguram is about 3 km from Bulguksa by hiking trail (about 9 km by road). If you stay for the Donggung Palace night view you will be out late, so bring a layer to match the forecast.

A 2-day spring route with flower spots

The basic 2-day plan already passes most of Gyeongju City's spring flower spots: the Daereungwon stone wall and Cheomseongdae on day 1, and Bulguksa on day 2.

To add the Bomun Lake path, take bus 10, which runs through Bomun Lake Resort. Check stops and times in the official information before you go.

Good to know: Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond is busy with night-view visitors, and arriving close to last entry (21:30) may mean you can't get in, so go early. Gyeongju National Museum is closed on the first Monday of March, and Yangdong Village opens 09:00–19:00 April–September and 09:00–18:00 October–March.

What to book early and how to get around

Blossom season draws a lot of travellers, so once your dates are set, book accommodation and trains early. There are three main areas to stay: the city centre for walking the heritage sites, Bomun Lake Resort with its hotels and condos (bus 10 stops at most of them), and around Bulguksa for seeing Bulguksa and Seokguram early.

High-speed KTX and SRT trains stop at Gyeongju Station, formerly Singyeongju; it was renamed on 28 December 2023, so book tickets to 'Gyeongju'. It is about 2 hr 10 min from Seoul, about 20 min from Dongdaegu and about 30 min from Busan; check timetables and fares on Korail. Express and intercity buses arrive at Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal, about 3 hr 30 min from Seoul by express bus.

In town, city buses cost KRW 1,300 (regular) or KRW 1,700 (seat bus) regardless of distance, with KRW 50 off using a transit card. Buses 10 and 11 run from 06:00 to 21:40 (from the terminal), about every 20 minutes, and the '전국스마트버스' (national smart bus) app shows real-time arrivals. Flying in, Gyeongju City lists shuttle buses from Gimhae Airport (about KRW 9,000) and Incheon Airport (about KRW 41,300). Entry rules for Korea depend on your nationality, so check official Korean government information before you travel.
