The airport is in the city's Sergeli district
Tashkent International Airport (TAS) is in Tashkent's Sergeli district. To get into the city you take a city bus or a taxi, and once in town you can switch to the metro. This post walks through what to sort out before you leave the terminal, bus fares and payment, how to get a taxi, and how to carry on by metro.
Fares and payment details come from Tashkent Metro and Uzbekistan's national tourism site. Anything that can change, such as bus route numbers, hours and taxi fares, should be checked in the official information before you go.
Before you leave: exchange, ATMs and SIMs on the second floor
The check-in area on the airport's second floor has currency exchange, ATMs and SIM card sales. The currency is the Uzbek som (UZS), so if you want cash for a bus ticket or for your first day in town, get it here first.
In the city you can also change money at hotels, banks and exchange offices. A taxi app needs mobile data, so it helps to sort out a SIM card before you leave the terminal.

In the city, ride the metro: hours and tickets
The Tashkent Metro opened in 1977 as the first metro in Central Asia. It officially runs daily from 05:00 to 00:00, and Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists four lines. The fare matches the bus: UZS 1,700 per ride with an ATTO transport card or a contactless bank card.
Without a card, buy a one-ride QR ticket (UZS 3,000) with cash at a station ticket office. ATTO cards are sold at metro ticket offices too, so if you will ride buses and the metro for a few days, pick one up at your first station.
Tashkent has three main areas: the Old Town (Eski Shahar) with Chorsu Bazaar and Kukeldash Madrasah, the city center around Amir Temur Square with Temur's equestrian statue, or Taras Shevchenko Street (Mirobod district) for evening walks. Check the station and line nearest to where you are going or staying on the official metro map before you go.
