Yantai Penglai Airport (YNT): two ways to leave the airport
Yantai Penglai International Airport (YNT) is in Penglai District. To get to the city or other parts of Yantai, you have two options: the airport bus and taxis. Airport bus tickets are sold at the counter by Gate 6 in the Terminal 2 (T2) arrivals hall, and taxis wait right opposite Gate 7 on the Terminal 2 arrivals level.
Airport bus times and routes change often. This post covers where to board, where the lines go, which area to stay in, getting around once you arrive and an arrival-day checklist. Check the official information before you go for travel times and fares.
Airport bus: the counter by Gate 6, Terminal 2 arrivals hall
Buy airport bus tickets at the counter by Gate 6 in the Terminal 2 arrivals hall. Lines are listed for Huangbohai New Area, Muping, Penglai, Longkou and Laiyang/Qixia, plus Yantai South Station and the Yantai bus terminal.
Times and routes change often, so check the bus operator's official notice or call (Yantai bus terminal 400-636-9369). Check the official information before you go for fares and travel times too. Airport information: 0535-6299999.
Taxi: opposite Gate 7, Terminal 2 arrivals level
The taxi waiting area is right opposite Gate 7 on the Terminal 2 arrivals level. It is on the same arrivals level as the airport bus counter (Gate 6), so you can choose either once you have your bags.
Have your destination address in Chinese. Travel time depends on your destination; check the official information before you go for fares.
Which area to head for: the airport is in Penglai District
Penglai, home to the airport, also has the Penglai Pavilion scenic area and Pengchang Passenger Port for boats to Changdao, and wineries are clustered in the Qiushan valley. The other areas break down like this: for a first visit, the Zhifu old town, where Chaoyang Street, Yantai Hill and Suochengli are linked on foot; for beaches and sunrise, the east coast from No. 1 Bathing Beach to Moon Bay; for sunsets, the western coast with the Golden Beach seaside park. Yangma Island, the Shimenli scenic area of Kunyu Mountain in Muping District and hot-spring resorts are on the east side.
The airport bus lines include area names such as Penglai and Muping. Check the official information before you go to see whether a line serves the area you are staying in and where to get off.

Once you arrive: Route 17, trains and island boats
In town, Route 17 and the Eight Immortals-themed coastal sightseeing line cost 1 CNY and run along Yantai's coastline. For the roughly 18 km coastal route on the east coast, combine Route 17 with walking.
Yantai has several high-speed rail stations: Yantai, Zhifu, Yantai West, Muping and Penglai. Pick the one closest to where you are going, and check times and tickets with official railway information.
Changdao can only be reached by boat from Pengchang Passenger Port in Penglai. The crossing takes about 45 minutes and a regular passenger boat is 45 CNY one way. Kongtong Island off Zhifu also needs a boat, so book ahead. Services can stop in strong wind or thick fog.
